报告摘要:

After the discovery of laser-induced demagnetization[1] the optical manipulation of the magnetic state of materials has become an increasing field of research. In this talk a brief report of some more recent advances will be given[2], followed by a discussion pertinent to the design of magnetic structures whose purpose is the coherent magneto-optical control.

The main focus of the talk will be on how to take into account the different degrees of freedom in the calculations, as well as how to actively use them when designing spintronics materials. After a short description of the pursued concepts, the spin, the phonons[3], the laser parameters and finally the temperature will be addressed. At the same time some of the delicate interplays between those degrees of freedom will be pointed out, combined with the description of how to use them in order to devise spin-dependent heat engines on the nanoscale[4].

报告人简介:

Dr. Georgios Lefkidis received his M.S degree in Aristotle University Thessaloniki in 1995, and Ph.D degree in the same university in 2002. From 2003, he came to University of Kaiserslautern and worked there as a Post-doctoral researcher for four years. Currently he is a tenured lecturer in University of Kaiserslautern. His main research fields are electronic ab-initio theory of nonlinear optics and magnetooptics in ferro- and antiferromagnets, laser-induced spin and charge dynamics, quantum thermodynamics, and logic functionalization of magnetic nanostructures for logic units and spintronics devices. Till now he has contributed 43 peer reviewed publications (PRL, Nature Physics, PRB et al.), one book chapter, and 17 invited talks. Also, he is a referee for several journals (e.g., American Physical Society and Physica Status Solidi).
